What this calculator covers

This workflow is for potentially qualifying debt opened before the active-duty start date you enter. It estimates possible interest above the federal 6% cap during the covered period. For a qualifying mortgage, it can include up to one additional year after active duty, but never a future date. The institution reviews the facts and dates for itself.

Federal request deadline

For the federal 6% interest-rate benefit, send the creditor written notice and proof of service no later than 180 days after active duty ends. A mortgage may have one additional year of rate coverage, but the request deadline is still 180 days. This deadline applies to this federal interest-rate request, not every SCRA protection. About this estimator

What this SCRA estimate covers.

Orders First provides a simplified screen for the federal pre-service debt interest-rate benefit. It does not determine eligibility, calculate the creditor's final adjustment, or promise a refund.

01

How the estimate works

Orders First compares the average APR you enter with a 6% annual rate over the covered period, using the average balance and dates you provide. The result is approximate because it does not account for every balance change, fee, refinance, service fact, or institution rule.

02

Federal protection and additional institution benefits

The federal 6% scenario is shown first. A lower-rate comparison appears only when the institution and account type you enter match an additional benefit stated by that institution. An additional institution benefit does not replace or narrow the federal protection.

03

What happens after the estimate

Orders First can prepare a basic request for you to review and download. It does not attach service documents, add a signature, send the request, or track an institution response. The institution decides what applies and performs its own calculation.

Common questions

Know the limits before you begin.

What does the federal 6% rule cover?

For qualifying debt taken on before military service, the SCRA generally limits covered interest to 6% per year during service. Amounts above the cap are forgiven, not postponed. For a qualifying mortgage, the rate period can continue for one year after service.

Can I request this after active duty ends?

For this federal interest-rate benefit, written notice and proof of service must reach the creditor no later than 180 days after active duty ends. Day 180 is allowed; this workflow blocks the request on day 181. Other SCRA protections and additional institution benefits may use different timing.

Does opening the account before active duty mean I qualify?

No. An account-opened date before active duty is required for this workflow, but it does not prove that the federal rule applies. The estimator does not verify service, account ownership, refinances, documents, or every legal requirement.

Is the estimate a promised refund?

No. The result uses average values you enter and does not account for every changing balance, rate, fee, or institution rule. The institution decides what applies and calculates any adjustment.
