Rules for signing away an SCRA protection

Check for waiver language
What it may do

A waiver of certain SCRA protections generally must be a separate written document signed during or after service. It must identify the agreement and the servicemember and use type that is at least 12 points.

When it may fit

Someone asks the member to give up an SCRA protection.

What you may need to do

The member must knowingly sign the waiver. Orders First does not create waivers.

The Justice Department can bring some SCRA cases. A person harmed by a violation may also be able to bring a civil case for relief, money damages, legal costs, and possibly attorney fees.
