What it may do

A qualifying foreclosure, sale, or seizure generally needs a court order during service and for one year after. A court may pause the action or adjust payments when military service seriously affects the member's ability to pay.

When it may fit

The member still owes a pre-service loan secured by property the member owns, such as a mortgage or qualifying home-equity line of credit.

What you may need to do

No advance notice is needed for the court-order rule. Ask a court for a pause or payment adjustment and get help quickly if a sale is threatened.

Where this comes from

Federal protections stay separate from additional institution benefits.

We base federal summaries on current federal law and official agency guidance. Additional benefits offered by a bank are labeled separately and do not change the federal protections.
