Using a professional license after a military move

Check eligibility
What it may do

A qualifying out-of-state professional license must be accepted in the new state after the member or spouse completes the required application. Licenses governed by an interstate compact follow that compact's rules.

When it may fit

A servicemember or spouse has a qualifying professional license and moves to another state because of military orders.

What you may need to do

Apply with the orders and a notarized statement. A spouse also provides a marriage certificate.

Protecting personal assets from certain business debts

Understand the protection
What it may do

During service, personal assets that are not connected to the business generally cannot be used to pay a business debt for which the member is personally responsible. A court may adjust this protection.

When it may fit

The member is personally responsible for a qualifying business or trade debt during service.

What you may need to do

No routine notice to the creditor is specified. Get help if the debt is disputed or someone tries to take personal assets.
