Protection before property is sold for a storage, towing, or repair debt

Check the threat or auction
What it may do

A storage company, tow yard, repair shop, cleaner, or similar business generally needs a court order before selling or taking a servicemember's property to collect a covered debt during service and for 90 days after. A court may pause the action or adjust payments.

When it may fit

Someone holds the member's property for an unpaid charge and tries to sell or take it during the protected period.

What you may need to do

No advance request is needed for the court-order rule. Ask a court for a pause or payment adjustment and get help quickly if a sale is threatened.

Where this comes from

Federal protections stay separate from additional institution benefits.

We base federal summaries on current federal law and official agency guidance. Additional benefits offered by a bank are labeled separately and do not change the federal protections.
